Pent Valley's Shepway School Games (SSG) team hosted a festival day of wheelchair basketball at Pent Valley School, in which twelve primary school teams were in action.
The competition was designed to allow pupils to build on their basic wheelchair skills. These skills have been developed as part of the SSG's Paralympic Roadshow which visits Shepway Primary schools throughout the year.
The morning session consisted of activity stations designed to provide children with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the wheelchairs, while at the same time being able to manage a ball through passing, dribbling and shooting exercises.
After lunch the tournament began with teams, St Eanwythe's 1, Seabrook 1, 2 and 3, Hythe Bay, Stella Maris 1 and 2, Christ Church, Folkestone Primary Academy, All Souls and St Augustine's playing in five aside matches in two separate groups of six. The teams' tournament points and morning’s activity station points were then combined to make up an overall tally.
The Gold Medal match saw winners of group A, St Eanwythe's team 1 overcome winners of group B, Stella Maris team 2, who claimed the Silver Medal, while the 2nd placed team, All Souls claimed the Bronze medal in a close match against Seabrook 3.
